Central Macedonia |

The central department of Macedonia - the capital of which is Salonica - is the landmark and the crossroad of Balkans, the gate to the East, an important harbour of Northern Greece, a region with very important archaeological finds and well-organised ski centres, a place with an excellent tourist infrastructure. The natural continuity of Salonica, Chalkidiki, stretches out into the north of the Aegean Sea, with its three 'legs' - three smaller peninsulae - (Kassandra, Sithonia, and Athos) offering beautiful scenery and a well-organized infrastructure and satisfies even the most demanding visitor. The natural reserves that shelter rare species of migratory birds and the deep-shaded forests of various types of trees and shrubs are very interesting for all the travellers. The unexpected succession of scenery and the easy access to the lovely beaches of the region and the hamlets on the greenclads of Olympus and Pieria, make the central department of Macedonia the first choice for winter and summer holidays |
