| Central Greece |
|
|
Central Greece consists of Attica, Etoloakarnania, Viotia, Fthiotida and Fokida. It boasts many natural beauties and a glorious past as it was one of the first ever regions of the contemporary Greek state. Central Greece owes its name to the distinct boundaries separating the regions of the newly founded Greek state after it was liberated from the Turkish yoke, especially Peloponnesus from the islands. The oracle at Delphi, located at the foot of mount Parnassus, was a major attraction for the cities of ancient Greece and generally influenced the country heavily. Besides all the natural beauties it boasts, Central Greece is privileged enough to consist of places that were closely associated with very significant moments in Greek history, such as Thermopiles, Platees, and Nafpaktos. |
