Psara is a small island complex 20 n. miles northwest of Limnia (Chios) that has become a synonym of glory since the great naval battles of the 1821 revolution. It is the birthplace of famous fire-ship captains like Kanaris, Papanikolis and Pipinos. It is a regular slice of heaven, generously offering its beauty to the few people who visit each year. It’s quite a dry place with low vegetation, mainly wild bushes, famous for its delicious thyme honey, its fresh fish, its naval tradition and the straight-forwardness of the locals. The naval battles they fought during the 1821 revolution are as famous as the price they had to pay for their bravery (the island was destroyed by the Turks in 1824).
