It has about 800 inhabitants and it is located on the southwestern side of the island, 96 km away from Chalkida.
It was named after a Homeric city whose remains can still be seen near the sea. The nearest beach is in Nea Stira, an ever-developing settlement connected to Agia Marina (in Attica) by ferry on a daily basis. As for hiking fanatics, try the canyon of Charakas for a nice 3-hour hike.
