With 300 residents, it is located northwest on the island and is 2km from Hora.
Seamen of old, when referring to Ios, would call the island ‘Mini Malta’, due to the exceptionally protected natural port. When viewing the port from the inland, it gives the impression of a large lake. It was used as a base in the ancient days, and also by the pirates, and today is the starting point for visitors on excursions around the island. Development in recent years, has seen the port not only develop into a transit point but also a place for calm and relaxing family holidays, discreetly distancing itself from the intensity of Hora. |

| Worth seeing |
•The pretty chapel of Agia Irini, on the right side of the port (17th century Ad). •Homer’s Monument with engravings that certify his relationship with the island. |
| |
| Where to swim |
•Swim at Gialos and at Xrisi Akti. •The beautiful beach at Koumbara, northwest of the port, is a ‘blue flag’ beach within breathing distance of the port and is the best choice for a swim.Wonderfully clean waters and all the modern conveniences (accommodation, food and a magic sunset). |
