Sami

It has about 1100 residents and it is located on the east side of the island, 23 km away from Argostoli.

It is the third biggest port of Kefalonia with a very sophisticated city plan, presenting both architectural and ecological interest.

Worth seeing

•The ruins of the ancient city
•The cyclopean walls at Agioi Fanetes, the remains of the ancient theatre and the roman baths with the intricate mosaics.
•The cave of Drogarati (3 km to the left) just before you get to Sami. It has very beautiful stalagmites and stalactites and the past few years it has been used as a concerts hall thanks to its excellent acoustics.
•The cave of Melisani, where you can book a tour on boats, specially modified for this reason. It is a unique spectacle, especially if you get there when the sun shines above the roofless cave.
•The lake of Karavomilos. It is said that after the sea water disappears in the cracks at Katavothres, it goes through the cave of Melisani and ends up right here.
