The village of Kefalos counts about 2.400 permanent residents, lies at the south part of the island and is located 41 kilometres from the city of Kos.
The village of Kefalos is built on a hill, on two levels. Despite its high popularity due to its beach and its crystalline waters, the village is still bearing a lot of its magnificence of the traditional village colour, with narrow lanes and whitewashed houses overlooking the Aegean Sea. A part of the ancient town which was called Astipalaia survives to the west of the village of Kefalos, at the site Palatia, where there are the ruins of a temple's groundwork and the ruins of a theatre dated from the Hellinistic times. |
