The capital of Kassos, Fri (pronounced as "Free") lies to the north part of the island and has a population of about 300 inhabitants.

 It is the capital and the port of the island. It was built in 1840 by people from the neighbouring villages on the bay of Burka. Today, the traditional architecture makes the town beautiful and picturesque. In the town's alleys and squares, one can admire the two-stereyed mansions of the island's captains.
