Skala has about 1500 residents and it is the port of the island, located in the heart of Patmos.

It’s built in the same place as the ancient capital - a fact proven long ago by the ruins of the ancient citadel discovered above Casteli, where the podium of the ancient temple of Apollo and part of the fortifying walls are still visible. It is the largest settlement in the island and it attracts the most tourists.
