This townlet has about 7.000 permanent residents, lies to the north part of the island and is 9km far from the town of Rhodes.
It's one of the most important towns of the island. Ialyssos is situated in the northwest coast of Rhodes. Its name derives from the hero Ialysos, grandson of Helios, the Sun god, brother of Lindos and Kamiros who founded the cities of Lindos and Kamiros on the island. Ialyssos is one of the most important tourist resorts in the country, with many hotels and a long beach. |

| Worth seeing |
• The Acropolis of the ancient town of Ialyssos, known as Achaia or Filerimos, one of the three ancient cities of Rodos with remains of occupation dating back to 3rd millennium BC. The access to the area is possible via an asphalted road through a pine-tree forest. The archaeological site is located on the top of the Filerimos hill. • The brilliantly restored church of Panagia Filerimos, the monastery, the ruins of a medieval castle. • The Doric fountain-house that has the shape of a "Π". Lion-head spouts discharged the water from the closed cistern into a open tank, which was enclosed by six pillars with stone panels between them, and from there to a portico of six Doric columns which formed the facade of the fountain-house (4th c. BC). • The Single cell chapel of Ayios Georgios Chostos, with 15th c. frescos in an eclectic style. • The road of Golgothas from the square of Filerimos hill to the top of the hill. there are scenes of the Passions of Jesus. |
