There are just a few permanent residents; this area is to the west part of the island, about 50 km far from the town of Rhodes.

Skala Kamirou is the haven of the village of Kritinia, a mountainous village of about 600 permanent residents, mostly farmers that have a cretan origin.  There is a regular connection between Skala Kamirou and the island of Halki. Opposite to Skala Kamirou are the islets of Makri, Alimia, Strongili and Tragoussa.
