The ideal solution for a pleasant holiday
The beauty of the landscape, the sea breeze and the well-preserved neoclassical manor houses of Edipsos and Limni give the north of Euboea its own distinct flavor. Emperors, as well as Roman and Byzantine generals have all stayed here for health reasons or recreational purposes, building theaters and guest houses in an effort to make their stay as pleasant as possible. This area has been famous since the days of Homer for the fruitful valley of Istiea. The combination of sea and mountains, the island-tinged flavor of the place and the fantastic climate make Euboea a magical destination, attracting tourist crowds that seem to be getting larger by the year.

Edipsos
It has about 4000 residents and it is located on the northwestern side of the island, 117 km away from Chalkida if you take the short-cut through Limni.
The beauty of the landscape, the sea breeze and the well-preserved neoclassical manor houses of Edipsos and Limni give the north of Euboea its own distinct flavor. This city has been mentioned by Aristotle, Plutarch and many other ancient writers. Emperors, as well as Roman and Byzantine generals have all stayed here for health reasons or recreational purposes, building theaters and guest houses in an effort to make their stay as pleasant as possible. The contemporary part of the city is built as a continuation to the ancient one, with a well-organized infrastructure.
Worth seeing
•The hot springs, which happen to be the warmest in Europe. There are four main springs north of the city, utilized by both public and private spas.
•Sulla’s cave, named after the Roman general who resorted to the local hot springs in 83 B.C., trying to cure his arthritis.
•The remains of the ancient city on top of the hill, as well as the ruins of the roman baths (Sulla’s included).
•The local archaeological finds near the most recently built spa.
•The byzantine Monastery of Agios Georgios (Saint George), near the village Ilia. It has some very beautiful wall-paintings and it’s built over a sanctuary that used to be dedicated to Apollo Helios.
•The «Therme Sila» spa and its adjoining hotel, stretching along the coastal road of the city. It’s an impressive complex, consisting of renovated neoclassical buildings.

Artemisio-Pefki
They have about 1200 residents and they are located on the north side of the island. Artemisio is 116 km away from Chalkida, 2 km less than Pefki. The headquarters of the Municipality of Artemisio are located in the homonymous village, formerly called Kourbatsi, a name of turkish descent that means beating. It was renamed in 1926 in honor of the goddess Artemis, after a temple that used to be dedicated to her was discovered in the area. Today, that same spot is taken up by the cemetery of Pefki.
A stroll around the village is definitely worth taking. There are a lot of well-preserved houses dating back to the Turkish domination and if you happen to be a lover of nature you’re in for a pleasant surprise. Just outside the village there’s a beautiful stream surrounded by pines, planes and walnut-trees, leading right up to Agrilitsa. The view from up there is absolutely fantastic: You can actually see as far as Pilio and Sporades!
Pefki
It is the most popular holiday resort in the Municipality. It is the port of Artemisio and it has a well-developed tourist infrastructure.

There are a lot of hotels and guesthouses to chose from, as well as furnished studios.
The village attracts a lot of tourists, mainly because of its beach. There are plenty of little taverns, restaurants and bars and the night life is quite intense! During the summer you are bound to run into farmers trying to sell their products near the port.
You can also visit the Sporades whenever you feel like it, thanks to the flying dolphins (it’s 20´ to Skiathos, 45´ to Skopelos and 60´ to Alonissos) or take a day cruise to the Sporades.

Limni
It has about 2500 residents and it is located on the northwestern side on the island, 87 km away from Chalkida.
It is built amphitheatrically curling around a gulf, and it wins visitors over immediately. All you have to do is enjoy the fresh sea breeze, the beautiful sands and the scent of the pine-trees that go right down to the shore.
Worth seeing
•The Museum of History & Folklore, housed in a traditional manor house, and the Museum of Marine Biology, just outside the village.
•The Monastery of Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicolas), commonly referred to as Moni Galataki, built in the 8th century over the foundations of an ancient temple. The monastery has a lot of wall-paintings that date back to the 16th century.

Orei
It has about 1500 residents and it is located on the north side of the island, 135 km away from Chalkida, if you take the short-cut through Limni.
The village was named after ancient Oreo and its tourist infrastructure is still under development. The port is quite beautiful and visitors can enjoy fresh fish in the local taverns or try one of the famous ouzo bars along the coast.
Worth seeing
•The remains of the ancient citadel (it’s mostly fortification walls).
•The venetian and the turkish castles.
•The byzantine church of Agios Vasilios, which seems to have been built over an ancient temple as well. All the archaeological finds discovered in the area now belong to the community collection, consisting of earthenware pieces from the Classical Era and the Roman times, as well as some statues.
•The Marble Bull, dating back to the 4th century B.C. on the village beach.

Elinika
It has about 500 residents and it is located on the northeastern side of the island, 102 km away from Chalkida.
This village is perched on the slope of a pine-clad hill. Elinika (which actually means Greek) owes its name to the greek ships that dropped anchor near the village beach before the naval battle of Artemisio.
The beach in question is an absolute gem, pine-clad and perfect for small vessels. The trees are almost touching the water! Across the beach there’s a tiny little island dominated by the church of Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicolas). You can swim the distance if you want to, it’s quite a pleasant work-out!

Vasilika
It has about 1000 residents and it is located on the northeastern side of the island, 95 km away from Chalkida.
Vasilika is a picturesque village with an impressively long beach called Psaropouli. These parts will make you realize that there’s a whole new side to the Aegean, quite different to the one you used to know from the Cycladic Islands. There’s a greater variety in colors and plenty of vegetation, but that familiar island glow is still there, only the colors change depending on the time of day. According to tradition, the village was given this name (Vasilika means regal) because the ships of the Persian king Xerxes dropped anchor near the beach of Psaropouli during the naval battle of Artemisio.

Neos Pirgos
It has about 1200 residents and it is located on the north side of the island, 134 km away from Chalkida.
It is a popular coastal village near Orei, built by refuges from Constantinople. It has a pretty good street plan and it attracts a lot of holiday-makers during the summer
