| Kamari |
With approximately 850 residents, it is located southeast on the island and is 12km from Fira.
Most popular and frequently mentioned beach is undoubtedly Kamari, with its endless black sand and hundreds of beach parasols set up in rows along the beach offering shade to the endless summer visitors. The dark black of the sea does anything but dishearten the thousands of visitors that swim here daily. |

| Worth seeing |
| •Excavations in these craggy parts of Sellada, have uncovered a large part of ancient Greek and Roman Thera. The ancient city is built amphitheatrically in graduated planes; ‘pezoules’ (terraces) as the locals refer to them. Those of Dorian origin worshipped the Apollo Karneio before converting via the Ptolemaic influence and other worshippers of eastern origin such as Annoubi, Sarapi and Isida. Of the ancient Roman civilization remains the Roman agora, the theatre, baths, the Temple of Apollon, and various nobles’ mansions, indicative of the cosmopolitan and affected character that had adopted the otherwise Doric township during the last centuries before Christ. |
