With approximately 200 residents, it is located east on the island, and is 10km from Fira.

Monolithos is a seaside town close to the island’s airport. Leaving behind the north side of Santorini and heading 4 km south, there is the turn off for the airport and to the beach. The town owes its name to the neighbouring monolith with the church of Ai.Ioannis built on it. Its beach begins at Kamari and as such shares similar characteristics - dark waters, black sand, pebbles, and pumice. The beach here however is shallow.
