 Karpathos (alias Pigadia) is the capital and the main port of the island, with a population of 1800 inhabitants. On the left side of the port's entrance stands the rock with the ruins of the ancient Acropolis of the ancient Poseidio. |

• The parts of the fortification above the port dated from 1200 BC;
• The ruins of a Paleochristian Basilica of Agia Fotini (6th century AD) on the ruins of the temple of the Dioscouri;
• The monumental tomb in the cave of Neptune that was probabluy used for worshiping Venus. |
