Olimbos is the northern most village of Karpathos, situated 63 km northwest of Hora. It counts about 300 permanent residents.

 The village was established in the 10th century, its construction was finished in the 15th century and it was the safest refuge on the island during pirate raids due to its inaccessible location. The houses with vivid exterior colours and beautifully decorated interiors are built with precision, and every house has a chapel and a mill. Women wear their traditional costumes (fine handmade goatskin boots, intricately embroided jackets, scarves and pinafores, heavy collars of gold coins). They bake bread and Greek style biscuits (koulouria) in outdoor communal ovens from flour ground in the village's medieval windmills. Transport within the village is done by donkeys and even if people are now getting used to visitors, life still goes on, women carrying reluctant goats from the port up the hill, people carrying faggots on their hands.
