The capital of the island, Hora, is located 5.5 kms from the port of Katapola (in the south), without being visible from the sea. Imposing is the castle and its wall of warriors, clearly of a fortified character, reflecting the precarious period of the Venetian Occupation. In the centre of Hora, you can find the oldest and most distinguished manor, The Tower of Gavra, a building of Venetian architecture, dating from the 16th century.
