This island (along with its people) has been deemed peculiar, and not unjustifiably so: The constant geological changes have caused some truly strange phenomena! They can of course be explained scientifically, but they still attract a lot of interest, giving the island’s singular landscape a mysterious appeal. The famous robola wine is made right here in Kefalonia, as well as a very tasty kind of honey made out of thyme. This island also has a strong musical tradition kept alive by the famous mandolin choirs, known as mandolinata, with obvious italian influences. Even though Kefalonia is a big island of considerable natural beauty with lovely beaches and good transport (frequent flights, lots of ships running) touristicaly speaking it’s not very developed, save for very few areas. This is exactly what makes it ideal for a relaxing holiday.
