| Sporades Islands |
|
|
There are no words to describe the deep green hues of the trees and the golden yellows of the sands illuminating the entire complex of the Sporades Islands, namely Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros, located opposite Euboea. The Sporades owe their collective name to the uneven (sporadic) distribution of islands comprising the complex. Besides the four bigger islands already mentioned above, the North Sporades include some smaller ones, such as Peristera, Xero, Kira Panagia and Pelagonisi, as well as the rock islands of Praso, Skyropoula, Skantzoura, Tsougria, Psathoura and Piperi.
The constant changes in landscape and the various entertainment venues allow for a perfect combination of peaceful yet cosmopolitan vacations. The Sporades Islands with their characteristic architecture, long history and natural beauty, as well as a well-developed tourist infrastructure, have been attracting an increasing numbers of tourists in the past few years with the promise of a very special holiday. Each island has its own distinct flavor and offers a different summer experience.

Alonissos
The pine-clad mountains, the lee coves, the picturesque gulfs and the multitude of beaches (50 in total) all represent different pieces of a mesmerizing puzzle, each one a different shade of blue and green. Alonissos, formerly known as Ecos, was already famous during the ancient times for its delicious wine. The island entered the Athenian Alliance of Delos in 478 B.C. and although it remained under the rule of Athens for over a century, it was apparently powerful and independent enough - both politically and financially - to issue its very own currency, a coin depicting Poseidon, the mighty god of the sea. Alonissos used to be the name of another island located north of Ecos, which later became known as Liadromia and is now called Kira Panagia. More>
Skiathos
There are no words to describe the unique beauty of this verdant island with the characteristic coastline, riddled with bays of all shapes and sizes. The beautiful landscapes, the beaches, the capes, and the capital of Skiathos in particular, are enveloped in a mist of legends, traditions and history, vividly described by Papadiamantis in his characteristically unforgettable style. Skiathos has a marvelous climate and a very well-developed tourist infrastructure, offering visitors the chance to enjoy a serene and relaxing holiday with a cosmopolitan twist, in a luscious natural environment. Skopelos
Skopelos has been known to capture visitors’ hearts before they even get off the ship!! The first thing you’ll notice as you enter the beautiful bay of the island is the capital city on your right. The houses are closely built on many different levels, covering the entire mountainside from top to bottom. The striking color contrast between the terracotta roof-tiles and the white-washed walls, complete with a few luscious touches of brilliantly green vegetation, will charm your pants off in a matter of seconds! And as if that wasn’t enough, it looks like practically every neighborhood has its own bell-tower! More>
Skyros
From a geographical point of view, Skyros is situated within the Sporades group of islands, but from an administrative point, it belongs to the nomenclature of Evia, an island 23 miles away. It is an island with an abundance of natural beauty - mountains, forests, wonderful beaches, and a traditional architectural style, which lends to the island a special colour and a unique identity. The inhabitants of the island are warm, friendly, and hospitable, their work is on the farms and breeding cattle. Their simple life has helped them preserve the old traditions of the island and created a particular folkloric civilization through which can be distinguished several forms of ‘pop art’ in the form of their wood carvings, weaving and pottery. According to a myth, it was on Skyros that Achilles took shelter in order to avoid the Trojan War. Today it can be your shelter for a quiet and relaxing vacation away from the crowds that deluge the cosmopolitan islands every year More>
