•There’s a big festival held in honor of Panagia Diniou, 6 km away from Istiea, held on the 23rd of August. It attracts a lot of local and foreign visitors. Diniou is Turkish for ‘comeback’. According to tradition, a Turkish soldier once took a shot at the icon of the Virgin Mary but the bullet came right back at him and shot him dead.
•Piperia (Pepper), an old custom celebrated in many villages in Euboea on May Day. The locals adorn a man with flowers (the so-called Pipero) and then walk the streets singing, praying to the gods for rain.
•The trade fairs of Istiea – the so-called Pazaria – that last from the 1st till the 7th of September.
•The Elimnia, cultural events held in the village of Limni in August.
•The festival of Agios Ioannis o Rosos (Saint John the Russian) on the 27th of May, held in the village of Prokopi.
•The Piperia festival on the 1st of May in Artemisio, with lots of dancing and eating.
