Paleokastritsa

It has about 250 residents, and you will find it on the northwestern part of the island, 25 km away from the city.

It is believed to be the place where the mythical capital of Pheakon was situated. Its turquoise bays and its lovely beaches, complete with magical caves, can easily seduce visitors.

•The homonymous byzantine Monastery of Panagia (Virgin Mary)
•The village of Lakones
•The Bella Vista (offering the island’s top views)
•The Monastery of Agia Paraskevi
•Agelokastro, a 13th century byzantine fortress, whose remains can still be seen on a far-away mountaintop from the village Krini.

Where to swim

Try the three bays of Paleokastritsa. The water may be a little cold but the beautiful coloring of the seabed is quite mesmerizing.
