Portaria counts about 1.000 permanent residents, lies to the north west of Pelion and is 15 km from Volos.
It is the first village that we meet at the foot of Pelion with traditional buildings, built according to the architecture of Pelion.
Portaria is the ideal place for resting, with nice cafés and clean, small hotels. The guilds of Portaria were quite known during the period of Turkish domination, especially as far as the silk and cotton clothing are concerned.
That's why Portaria is one of the economical centers, a fact that gave the opportunity to the villagers to build their lobvely mansions.
