Areopoli-Mani

Areopolis has about 1000 inhabitants and lies 73 klm. to the south-west of Sparta.

It is the Gateway to the Mani sightseeing. It is a traditional preservable settlement that is 25 klm. from Gythion with many restored tower houses. It was the base of operations of Mavromichalis family whose tower family is a museum.

Worth seeing

•The Pirgos (Tower) Kapetanakou that has been restored by EOT (National Tourism Organization of Greece) as a traditional guesthouse.
•The Pirgos (Tower) of Mavromichalis.
•The Church of Taxiarhon (18th century) in the town centre has medieval look and beautiful frescoes.
