It has about 5.000 residents and it is located on the northwestern side of the island, 32km. away from Vathi.
Vathi is built on the northwestern side of the island, in the middle of a beautiful valley overflowing with torrents. It is the commercial center of the island and it is divided in the following settlements: Neo, Paleo and Meseo Karlovassi, Ormos and Limani. Karlovassi used to be quite industrial and it still features lots of well-preserved tanneries. These old factories present great architectural interest and most of them are in very good condition. It’s worth taking some time to wander the narrow streets of the settlements, if only to admire how wonderfully the neoclassical buildings combine with the modern ones, giving the city of Karlovassi a unique flavor. |

| Worth seeing |
• The Monastery of Metamorphosis tou Sotira (Transfiguration), built in the 11th century. • The old well-preserved tanneries. • The little country church of Agia Triada (Holy Trinity), towering over the brilliantly green hill of Paleo Karlovassi. • The beautifully constructed church of Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicolas). • The Elementary School (Dimotiko Scholio) in Neo Karlovassi, a real architectural gem, just before the town square. • The sparkling waterfalls of Potami in the middle of a magical landscape full of plane-trees, lakes and running waters.

| |
| Where to swim |
• At the beautiful pebbly beach of Potami, 4km west of Karlovassi. The pebbles have taken on different colorings thanks to the combined effect of sea and sun. • If you follow the dirt road at the end of the beach of Potamos you will come upon Mikro and Megalo Seitani, a truly magical location.
