It has about 1300 residents and it is located on the south side of the island, 16km away from Vathi.

It is located northwest of Pythagorio and it used to be the capital of the island during the Middle Ages. It is very picturesque and it has been deemed a traditional settlement. The area is full of vineyards and olive orchards but the main source of income for most of the locals is tourism.
