It has about 1500 residents and it is located on the southwestern side of the island, 41km away from Vathi.

Marathokampos is one of the most picturesque villages in the island with characteristic narrow streets and traditional houses built on the side of mount Kerki. There are plenty of vineyards and olive orchards around and the area is famous for producing good quality oil and eclectic soap. Marathokampos also features the house of the heroic freedom fighter Captain Michalis. The local port is called Ormos, a picturesque settlement where you can get little fishing boats to take you to the brilliantly green island of Samiopoula, to Fourni or to Patmos. The beautiful long beach of Votsalakia is located west of Ormos, same as Psili Ammos - probably the best place to swim in the whole island.
