It has about 100 residents and it is located on the north side of the island, 63km away from Chios.

It is a mountainous village featuring a cave on one of its slopes, which was actually a famous place of worship. The byzantine church of Panagia (Virgin Mary) Agiogalousena, built near its mouth, dates back to the 13-14th century. It communicates with two other caves, magnificently embellished with stalagmites, that still haven’t been thoroughly explored.
