It has about 200 residents and it is located in the heart of the prefecture, 18km away from Chania.

It is a historical village, set against a glorious landscape. The road goes through a very picturesque canyon with imposing masses of rock. The oblong door of Therisos is impossible to break through, which is why it has played such an important part in the history of Crete.
The so-called Agelostrata (Angel’s walk) that used to lead up to Anopoli in Sfakia began in Therisos. If you want to climb up the highest mountaintop of Lefka Ori called Pachnes (2.452m above sea level) this is the place to start.
