With 100 residents, it is located east on the island, and 17km from Parikia.
Prodromos is located quite near to Marpissa. Its ancient name was Dragoulas or Tragoulas, due to the worship of Apollo Trageiou. It was later named Prodromos after the temple of Agios Yiannis Prodromos. It was at Prodromos that according to tradition, the great poet of Antiquity, Arhilohos was born. The town maintains strong ties to its past, and as such, maintains the small churches of Agios Spyridon and that of Agios Nikolaos in very good condition. A traditional specialty is the chickpea soup. |
