Nea Potidea counts about 1000 permanent residents and lies to the north of Cassandra peninsula.
Nea Potidea was founded by refugees from the Eastern Thrace on the site of ancient Potidea or Pallini which was founded by the Corinthians in 650 B.C. There are only ruins from the ancient city that was at its peak before the Peloponnisian War. Today, Nea Potidea is a modern town, a significant holiday resort and an important harbour. It has about 900 inhabitants, is built at the mouth of Kassandra's peninsula and is 33 km south-west of Poligiros. One should visit its canal what is worth seeing. Nea Potidea is the starting post for the tour and the sighhtseeing of Cassandra. |
