It has about 3000 residents and it is located on the south side of the island, 27km away from the capital.
If you decide to visit Agiasos you will have to hike up mount Olympus. The trail is quite pleasant, leading you through a pine-clad area. The village itself is built on a brilliantly green slope and it is considered one of the most beautiful mountainous villages in the island. You can walk around its narrow cobbled streets and admire the fretwork and the pottery Agiasos is famous for. Don’t forget to visit the church of Panagia (Virgin Mary) with the homonymous icon, brought over from Jerusalem in 1170 by the monk Agathonas. |

| Worth seeing |
•The church of Panagia (Virgin Mary), with the homonymous icon made by Saint Luke out of wax mastic. •The Folklore Museum. •Just outside of Agiasos, on Kasteli Hill, you can still see part of the byzantine castle, as well as the church of Agios Efstratios. •The spring of Karini (just before the crossroads on the way to Agiasos), in the middle of a unique landscape full of plane-trees, walnuts and running waters. On the wall of a local tavern you can still see traces of an old painting made by Theofilos, depicting the dance of Zalogo. It is said that the famous painter used to sleep in the hollow of the huge plane-tree in the village.
