It has about 1200 residents and it is located on the northeastern side of the island, 36km away from Mytilini.

It is a village with a very distinct island flavor and a strong tradition in pottery and fretwork, maintained to this very day. It is full of picturesque stone-built houses and it is famous for its cheese - dairy products. This is where you will find the Monastery of Taxiarchon, built in 1700, with a majestic icon dominating the entrance.
