Mytilini (capital) | Agia Paraskevi | Agiassos | Antissa | Asomatos | Varia | Vrissa - Vatera | Eressos | Thermi | Kaloni | Mantamados | Messotopos | Mythimna or Molivos | Moria | Petra | Plomari | Polichnitos | Sigri | Sykaminia

It has about 1800 residents and it is centrally located, 41km away from Mytilini.

It is located towards the northwestern side of the island and it is considered an important commercial center. Its port is called Skala Kalonis, boasting a beautiful beach with lots of shops and places to stay. You’ll find it right in the homonymous gulf, known throughout Greece for its delicious sardines. The surrounding area is considered a reserve, home to a considerable number of bird species. The salt flats are located here as well, producing a great amount of salt.

Worth seeing
•The men-only Moni (Monastery) Limonos (Saint Ignatius Monastery), one of the most important monasteries in the island, located in the same valley as Kaloni (6km away from it) and visitors can reach it by taking the left fork off the main road that leads from Eresos to Sigri. The monastery was founded in 1527 by Ignatius Agalianos. It boasts its own museum, where you can admire several folklore objects of historical significance as well as rare church heirlooms. There is a plethora of miniature constructions, identical to the monastery, in the surrounding area that are actually offerings by the faithful.
•It’s worth taking a morning stroll around the port of Skala, just to see the fishermen bringing in the famous sardines.
• The reserve in the gulf of Kaloni. In the past few years it has started attracting a lot of interest by nature lovers, who come to admire and study the birds. The most popular species are the flamingos.
•The salt flats, which started functioning during the Turkish domination. Impressive masses of salt give off the impression off wandering icebergs in the middle of a gulf reserve!

Where to swim
•Try Skala Kalonis with the long sandy beaches and the shallow waters.
