It has about 1500 residents and it is located on the northwestern side of the island, 63km away from Mytilini.
Its beauty is not easily described with words. It is the most traditional and the most well-preserved village in the whole island. It is built amphitheatrically and thanks to its pretty stone houses it looks more like a picture postcard, with a byzantine castle looming on top of the hill. A walk in the shaded, cobbled streets of Mithimna will lead you through to the charming old neighborhoods where the poet Argiris Eftaliotis and the writer Elias Venezis used to live, with beautifully preserved manor-houses, ornate drinking fountains and picturesque little cafés where you can enjoy your coffee or a local dessert, along with the view of the endless blue sea. |
