It has about 1500 residents and it is located on the east side of the island, 10km away from Mytilini.

It consists of three settlements: The main village/health-resort, the beach with the hot-springs and the Pirgi Thermis. The village was formerly called Pirgi because it used to have over 150 fortified houses, many of which are considered to be preservable.
Thermi was famous since the ancient times for its hot-springs, located right on the beach. They used to be dedicated to Thermia Artemis.
